We at Big Carp News love to share in our carp fishing adventures. Every angler out there has their own unique way of doing things or how they target carp. Some may fish a certain style and some may go after certain targets and set goals. Luis is not exception and we did a question and answer with him welcoming to the Big Carp News Team.

Carping Experience, How many years have you been carp fishing and a general history
I have been carp fishing for 7 years straight now. I haven’t stopped ever since I found out about this beautiful sport, when I hear the word “lake” it is like when a dog hears the word “park” that’s the best way I can describe how happy I get. Living in Southern California gives me the advantage to land fish all year round..From my experience  I think winter has been the best for me to find the bigger ones..

TACKLE/GEAR I NEVER LEAVE HOME

Catapult/Spomb/and bivvy for shade

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT

Had to be on December of last year 2016 when I broke the State Record at 55lb 11oz that fish is so special to me, considering I worked very hard to finally see the State Record resting on my mat, that morning I just had that feeling something very special was about to happen when we arrived at the lake, got set up and saw many fish leaping out of the water, nothing but big ones, got a run within 40 minutes after setting up, lost the fish to a rope, another solid run, picked up the rod and the fish was swimming towards me, so at that time I still had no idea it was the new State Record, then the fish just turned around and started swimming on the opposite side of the lake now, that’s when I felt the power of the massive fish, please don’t go towards the rope, finally brought the fish close to where my brother Fernando was able to net her..  when my brother Fernando and I saw that fish out of the water I right away knew that was it! The fish I been dreaming all this year’s about. After the scale settled at 55.11 my brother Fernando said to me. Brother. Don’t look at the scale! You are going to faint.. i just got in my knees and thank God for making this dream come true…

Thanks to a trout angler that caught a 37 pound carp in accident, that’s what started it all.. from my local lake that is now closed due to some anglers that drowned over the past years, after I saw that fish I went home that night thinking about that fish that couldn’t get out of my head.. ever since I been dreaming about catching that “bigger” one

TOP 3 FAVORITE BAITS

Boilies are my main approach to catch the big residents, plastic corn to avoid hooking turtles, and cream corn to create clouds with the spomb to attract them to my swim faster.
WHAT CHANGES WOULD I MAKE IN CARPFISHING IF I COULD?
I would change the fact that there is no limit on taking carp.. There should be a limit so people don’t get out of hand and just kill them for fun
QUICK TIP FOR OUR READERS
Don’t compete with anyone, compete against yourself, and you will be amazed on what you can accomplish.

WORST FISHING EXPERIENCE!!

I was with my brother Fernando fishing a local tidal river when I hooked into an orange koi, and right when it was about to grace my net an Osprey bolted down from the sky and took the fish.. I couldn’t believe what had just happened R.I.P Koi
OTHER HOBBIES
Enjoy catching lobster, fishing in the ocean, and working on my cars
FUTURE GOALS IN CARP FISHING
To spread the word that catch and release is the way to go.. like my good friend Wayne Boon once said.. take only pictures and leave only footprints… don’t take any fish admire them.. don’t leave any trash behind only footprints
BAIT TIP
No matter how you want to apply it. Koi pellets.. I never fish with out them.. whether they are in your boilies,in your pva, in your pack bait or in your ground mix.. keep it simple.. the person that invented koi food already broke their head for us.. don’t over think it.
FAVORITE ANGLER/STAND OUT
There are way to many great anglers to name.. but for me any angler that is catch and release, they have my respect, a small carp deserves the same carp care as a giant, a baby carp is delicate and needs to be treated like a baby, but some fish from certain anglers stood out and got stuck in my head, which pushed me to fish harder..
